"Queen Beryl, destroy everything but yourself and make this a world of darkness!"

Metallia, as noted in the history, was a fragment of chaos darkness which adapted to devour life energy. After being expelled from the Sun, she fell to Earth where she was found by Beryl. Metallia is a nonhuman, alien intelligence, the personification of appetite, malice, and will. She knows nothing of kingdoms and conquest, except what she has seen in Beryl's mind; her desires are for energy, limitless energy, especially the source called the Silver Empyrean Crystal. It is a mistake to envision Beryl as her mouthpiece or puppet. Metallia is no ruler or strategist; she is more goddess of the Dark Kingdom than queen. The rare occasions she intervenes in Dark Kingdom decisions are for humanly irrational reasons: thus she ordered Tuxedo Mask's conversion because his 'energy wavelength' was compatible with hers.

Metallia's powers are great, but limited by her nature. She can destroy with massive blasts or convert humans into monsters by infusing them with dark energy. She requires vast amounts of life energy to function at full power, and is vulnerable to and hampered by light, especially sunlight and moonlight. Despite their linkage, Beryl was unable to wield the power Metallia gave her until the two merged into one.

Metallia is immortal and almost impervious to destruction. Deprived of energy, she relapses into a dormant state, which sleep can last for millenia. By merging with Beryl, she combined their powers at the highest level, but she also made herself vulnerable; she too was destroyed when Beryl died.

"I only wanted you, Endymion, only wanted you?"

Beryl saw the darkness fall like a star from the heavens; sensing its power, she sought the site where it lay. And the darkness whispered to her, of love requited, and kingdoms, and matchless power, if only she would accept it. She opened herself to it and became the avatar of darkness. The cursed energies marked her, with fangs and horns and power. Her mind became one with evil.

Queen Beryl's power was of a very high level, but limited in the sense that she had to channel the dark energies through a staff and a crystal ball. Only if she fully merged with Metallia could these limitations be overcome. There was very little she could not accomplish, but her principal attacks were dark energy blasts and missiles of black crystal. She also controlled an invincible army of superpowered yomas.

Beryl was obsessive, megalomaniac, power mad, autocratic, and merciless. She became irrational and vicious at the slightest opposition. Yet it was her desire for Endymion which proved her fatal flaw. Note that Beryl tolerates, even encourages intrigue, treachery, and murder among her underlings.

Beryl's minimum goals are conquest of the Earth and Moon, death of the Moon Princess, and capture of the Silver Crystal. Note that Metallia cannot grant true immortality, so the acquisition of the Silver Crystal would be necessary for Beryl and her kingdom to last forever.

"The more I devote myself to you, the more coldly you treat me."

Tetis was the strongest of the yomas, and the only one to retain much of her original humanity. Her powers were essentially water control: she could use it as an attack, as a shield, to create water elementals, or to cast illusions. She was strongest in or around the sea. She could fight hand to hand, but preferred to avoid it. She was especially vulnerable to fire attacks. Her fatal flaw was her unrequited love for Jadeite.

"Our accursed enemy sealed the seven great yomas into the seven fragments of the Silver Crystal, and sent them to Earth."

Aside from their greater power, these are like ordinary yomas. They have both shadow forms and individual battle forms. Beryl spoke of fusing the seven into a single 'invincible shadow.' Their names are Gesen, Bokushi, Bunpo, Bina, Rikokeida, Jiji, and Bakene.

"It is an evil society, based on murder and betrayal."

The more formidable yomas gained superpowers, but were warped into monsters. Most of them could still assume human form, sometimes particular humans. The warlords assembled private cadres of picked yomas. In general, these yomas are low powered, but built around a single strong attack, with very little flexibility. Some of them have special vulnerabilities to particular attacks. Aside from Tetis, they are of limited intelligence and retain little or no memory of their human selves.
